The Covid pandemic provided a unique opportunity to host three world archery events in a two-week period. Normally, the World Archery Congress, the World Archery Championships, and the World Archery Cup are held at different times and locations worldwide. This time, all were combined to allow participants from around the world to quarantine and compete in a single location in back-to-back events.

The Championships were broadcast live worldwide, and nearly every shot of the competition contained gear locally provided by Molten Audio. (To see one of the final matches, Korea vs United States, visit YouTube.)

Molten Audio provided…

• LED Video Advertising
  • Five individual video surfaces for sponsor content, including a banner strip over 30 feet long.
• Video Routing and Distribution
  • Copper and fiber-optic cables were used to distribute video to screens and monitors for judges and spectators stretching over an acre of land.
• PA System
  • Eight “speaker pods” were used to cover bleachers and VIP seating without obstructing any sight lines or camera shots.
• Platforms
  • About 4,000 square feet of solid, level surface (almost enough to cover a basketball court) for the competitors, targets, VIP seating, and camera platforms… all wrapped in blue vinyl.
• Labor
  • Molten provided a crew of 16 people to deploy all of the above in under 3 days

LED Video Walls like ours are made up of dozens of 1/2-meter squares that can be assembled into nearly any shape, in 1.6-foot increments. We can hang them from the ceiling, stack on the ground, or suspend from any of our ground support structures.

Most of the time, you will want a standard 16:9 Widescreen shape for your video wall because that is how your content is designed to look. Videos and presentations will go edge-to-edge without distortion. Here’s a handy chart of what we can build for you:

But we’re not limited to that rectangle. We make a wall 72 feet wide… if it only needs to be 3.5 feet tall. In fact, that’s exactly what we did for branding at the World Archery Championship. We provided 56 feet of dynamic sponsor wraps like this and ran it for 9 days:

We can also split it up or go extra-wide as a “set piece” that becomes a graphic design element itself – beyond the presentation content. For example, for this event we extended the video wall to fit the stage edge-to-edge, and then framed the PowerPoint presentation with an animated background loop. This preserved the original aspect ratio of the presentation and made the stage more visually engaging at the same time.

This was not a simple “cookie cutter” online meeting. Many attendees are retired healthcare professionals who volunteer their time. A survey found they are not necessarily connected to social media or familiar with popular meeting platforms like Zoom or GoToMeeting/GoToWebinar. So it was important that accessing the virtual meeting be as simple as possible.

Being an official business meeting with budget approvals and the election of officers, privacy was important. This eliminated many mainstream channels like Facebook Live, YouTube Live, or Vimeo.

Ultimately Molten Audio selected a private content delivery network (CDN) to facilitate the RTMP streaming and created a private webpage to embed the video. Attendees each received a custom URL which allowed them to view the webcast on essentially any device with no software to install.

Another challenge was the content itself. The 2-hour program involved 24 individuals from around the country, including the AMA President who joined in through their studio in Atlanta. Each had to present annual reports, accept awards, or be sworn in as new officers.

To accomplish this, Molten Audio set up a virtual broadcast studio with a virtual “backstage area”. As the program progressed, participants could share their camera and screen through a simple browser-based application. Each source was available as a virtual camera,
